Wedding Bells are Ringing

We've had 2 recent weddings.  Proves that you're never too old!

Stroudsburg was the setting for the June 2 wedding of Harry (Hank) Roach and Dr. Elizabeth Goodling.

In Hank's words:

On June 2nd, Harry (Hank) Roach wed Dr. Elizabeth Goodling after thinking about it for ten years.  Liz is a professor in the dance department at East Stroudsburg University.  Besides being graceful, intelligent and very patient, Liz is an all-around good egg.  I'm a very lucky guy!

Congratulations and best wishes Hank and Liz!

July 22, friends and family joined Jim McGhee and Lynne Gabel as they exchanged vows in their Victorian Village home in Hatboro.

Jimmy and I got re-acquainted at our 50th reunion in October 2013.  After around 18 months of long distance romance, I finally left Georgia and moved to Hatboro.  We decided in early July to get married, and figured why wait?

Dreams do come true!

Stay tuned for the next Class of 63 wedding - John McDonald and Tina Hollingsworth, tentatively planned for next spring.

A Facebook Post from Carlos Sison

Carlos posted this recently on Facebook:

Looking back at my AFS year at Upper Moreland which turned out to be the best year of my teen life. It began in Aug 1962 with a “handshake of friendship” with Dad Frank Albus (Mom Ruth & bro Jim) and ended a year later with a poignant farewell. In between, the town I came to see conquered me with much love & affection. Thank you.

Unfortunately, Carlos will not be able to attend the reunion. Maybe next time?

An Update from Scott Brear

I received an email from Scott a short time ago.  He was sending his regrets for the reunion, but posted a short update on his life after UMHS.  Very interesting!

I copied from his email.

I have received the invitation for the 55th Reunion of our class…it hardly seems to be that long ago. Regrettably, I will not be able to attend…..the rest California fires have caused us much grief. But, I thought I would take this opportunity to share what has become of me in a nutshell since graduation 55 years ago…should someone be keeping a record.

1.      Penn State with degree of BS Marketing in 1968
2.      Law School in California with JD degree in 1979
3.      Most of career in high tech consulting (I was in Mission Control-Houston working as a junior techie when Armstrong landed on the moon), marketing and sales living on Hong Kong (10 years) and England (5 years)
4.      Stockbroker in San Francisco ….. after the dot.com bust until 2008.
5.      But for tours overseas, California has been my professional and personal home.
6.      Started practicing law in 2008 in Shasta County, California (200 miles north of San Francisco) specializing in family law and probate.  This last career has been extremely fulfilling! This included being appointed as pro tem judge for two years.
7.      Two children: Sebastian is 19 and a sophomore in local junior college. Samantha is 32 and involved in the emergency preparedness field based in Salt Lake City.
8.      I am on my fifth marriage….moving around has been costly.
9.      I am still very healthy weighing about same as when I graduated from UM.
10.   I am an avid ocean sailor having taken our boat from Hong Kong to the Philippines and then our US boat from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We cruised around for 18 months.
11.   We were just burned out of our home here in Shasta County (City of Redding). Total loss. Very scary event as the force of the fire was unexpected until 1 hour before we vacated. WE lived on our boat in San Francisco Bay for a week before coming back to the devastation! We will NOT rebuild here. The next spot will probably be Brookings, Oregon…on the coast just a few miles from California.

So that is me in  a nutshell over the past 55 years. Time flies. I would love to know what has become of the entire class. I know some died in Vietnam, and I am sure others have passed away from an assortment of reasons. I trust most have not.

Best wishes,

Scott Irvin Brear

Rooms Blocked at Days Inn for October 19 and 20

I went ahead and blocked 10 rooms at the Days Inn in Horsham (245 Easton Rd. next to Otto's).  Some rooms will be King, others will have 2 doubles.  The rate is $69 per night plus tax.  Included are free WiFi, free breakfast, and free parking.  This hotel is pet friendly and has a fitness center.

Call 215-674-2500 for reservations.  Mention that you are part of the UMHS 55th Reunion to get the special rate.  You MUST call by September 19.

UPDATE:

There might be some confusion regarding reserving a room.  On the reunion reservation form, I asked if you would need a room.  This was ONLY to get an idea how many rooms to block.

I CANNOT MAKE THE RESERVATION FOR YOU.  YOU MUST CALL YOURSELF IF YOU NEED A ROOM.

Sorry for any confusion!
