At the 2019 UMHS Commencement, Dr. Milrod, the Superintendent of Schools, told a little story. The president of the alumni association contacted him about the Alumni Hall of Fame. She wanted to nominate Sal (Sam) Paone to honor all the achievements he has made in the custom home construction business since high school.
However, there was a problem. To be a member of the Hall of Fame, a person must be an alumni. Sam had to leave school during his senior year to help his family. He never graduated.
Dr. Milrod stated that he had the authority to change that. So he used his super power and gave Sam an honorary diploma and made him an "official" graduate of the Class of 1963. Mr. DeLaurentis had the honor of handing Sam his diploma.
Sam has always been a member of our class - and now we can officially call him an alumni. We'll be looking forward to seeing him inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
Congratulations Sam! Job well done!
