Tour of the School on Saturday Morning

We again met at the school on Saturday morning for a guided tour of the new additions, led by Ms. Joy Perisho, the current principal.  So many changes!!  Where the offices used to be is now the music wing. Where the music room used to be is now the art rooms.  I think that's what's there.  We saw so many things, it's hard to keep track.  There are weight rooms somewhere too.  There's a new addition beyond the auditorium, extending out to where the bus lane used to be that now houses the offices.

We had the 200 and 400 hundred halls.  Looking out our windows on the odd numbered side of those halls, we would see a hill, leading up to a small parking lot.  That hill is now gone and in its place is a new addition, the 600 and 800 halls.  The stairway at the far end of the building is now the new science wing.  The library has more than doubled in size.  The open area of the cafeteria is now closed in, extending the cafeteria space.  There's a little patio area between the 200/400 halls and the 600/800 halls.  New lockers and air conditioning.

Let's look at some pictures.

This is now the main entrance to the school, where our bus lane, with the canopy, used to be.  That new addition houses the offices.

That part in front of the gym - I don't remember that being there before.

Let's go into the school.

The first thing we saw when we entered was a table full of donuts!  A nice way to start the morning!

The Golden Bear was given to the school by one of the graduating classes after us.  I can't remember the year.  I had heard that the bear originally came from Willow Grove Park.

Of course, some of us couldn't resist having pictures taken with the Bear!  Jim, Bill and Carole.

On one side of the hall are plaques showing inductees into the UM Alumni Hall of Fame.  Charlie Guenzel is on the wall, as is Don Merkin.  Sadly, Don passed away a few years ago.  We're so proud of both of them!

This wall includes the names of graduates who have served in the Armed Forces, listed by year.  The 60's included a lot of our classmates, I guess mainly due to Vietnam.

It's hard to read these names, but our class started in the 3rd column with Allan Brandt and continued into the next column, ending with Bill Smith.  Thanks to all of you for serving!

In the main hallway between the auditorium on the left and the cafeteria on the right.

Speaking of the cafeteria, it never looked like this when we were there!

The expanded library.  What a difference!

Ms. Perisho pointing things out to us in the library.  She was a great tour guide.  Thanks for allowing us to visit.

I've got some more pictures and I'll put them up in another post tomorrow.
